Turkey Terror Attack: Who Are The PKK, And Why Has The Turkey-Kurdish Conflict Endured For Decades? On Wednesday, October 23rd, tragedy struck Turkey’s state-run aerospace and defense company, TUSAŞ. A terrorist attack left five people dead and more than a dozen wounded. The two attackers, a man and a woman, were killed in the assault. While their identities are still being confirmed, Turkish authorities have pointed to the militant Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, as the likely perpetrators. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya and Defense Minister Yasar Guler have both expressed suspicion toward the PKK, but as the investigation continues, questions remain. But what is the PKK? And why has this conflict spanned decades? Founded in 1978 by Abdullah Öcalan, the PKK began as a Marxist-Leninist group aiming to secure greater political and cultural rights for Kurds in Turkey. By 1984, it had evolved into a nationalist movement, launching an armed insurgency that has led to a long, bloody conflict, claiming tens of thousands of lives. The group employs guerrilla warfare tactics, targeting both Turkish military and civilian sites, fighting for Kurdish autonomy. But to understand the roots of this violence, we need to explore the Turkey-Kurdish conflict. Kurds, an ethnic minority, make up nearly one-fifth of Turkey’s population of over 79 million. For much of the 20th century, they faced repression. Kurdish language and cultural expressions were banned, and their identity was systematically denied. This resulted in deep-seated resentment and a conflict born from decades of cultural suppression and demands for political rights. Tensions between the Turkish government and Kurdish groups have only escalated over time. Under President Erdogan’s regime, popular discontent has grown. The Gezi Park protests in 2013 and the failed coup attempt in 2016 reflect a country divided. This attack adds yet another chapter to an ongoing and unresolved conflict. As investigations continue and both sides stand firm, one thing remains clear—the road to peace is far from over. #turkey #turkeyblast #tusaş #turkeykurdishconflict #turkeyterrorattack #kurdistan #pkk #erdoğan #erdogan #abdullahöcalan #news #latestnews #kurdish #kurd Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more breaking news and updates!
