From $10 to $150: Restoring a Silver Dunhill Lighter!

Today on my channel, I’m sharing the restoration process of a true vintage gem: a Dunhill lighter from 1935, made in Switzerland. I bought it at an auction for just $10, and when I received it, it was missing one crucial part — the cap that covers the wick. I wasn’t sure if I could restore it, but I decided to take the chance, and I’m really pleased with how it turned out. Most of the parts of this lighter are made of pure silver, with the fuel tank crafted from brass plated with silver. It’s a rare and highly sought-after collector’s item, and restoring it was an absolute pleasure. During the restoration, I carefully disassembled the lighter, cleaned the silver to remove tarnish using a unique method that works for any jewelry piece, and then found a suitable part from other old lighters to make the missing cap. After taking precise measurements, I crafted it, soldered it, and plated it with copper to cover the soldering marks. Finally, I used a chemical silver plating method to restore the silver coating on the lighter. The body of the lighter had areas where the silver had worn off, but after degreasing and applying chemical silver plating, it looks brand new. This restoration was definitely a challenge, but I’m very happy with the result.
