Like the fruit falls off from the bondage of the stem, may we be liberated from death, from mortality. Maha + Mrityun + Jaya The mantra is the unification of three words, Maha- great, Mrityun- death and Jaya- victory; the one who victor the death. According to Hindu mythology, the mantra is also referred as Mrita-Sanjivini mantra because of its "life-restoring" practice - one that can bring anyone back from the clutches of death. Meaning of the Mantra - Literal meaning of the mantra Aum - Universal Salutation Triambakam - The Three eyed one (Shivji) Yajamahe - We worship Sugandhim - like sweet fragrance Pushtivardhanam - increases / nourishes (pushti and vardhan are both words for increase) Urmarukmiv - like a cucumber Bandhanan - from the bondages Mrityormukshiya - free me from the bondages of death Mamratat - and lead me to immortality (or don't free me from immortality) _________________________________________________________________________ Benefits and Importance of Mantra Chanting: Mantras are sound vibrations.
