Part of the swarming preparation of the colony is building new queen cells and rearing new queen larvae. The last is critical point in swarming preparation. Bees could sometimes even destroy established queen cells with larvae inside due lack of food resources. Many beekeepers are trying to prevent swarming with destroying queen cells. Usually that only delay swarming. We have to keep in mind that swarming mood of the colony is regulates by queen and brood pheromones. From that point of view, young queens are better. The other factor is distributing of queen pheromone across the colony which can be increased by increase of general activity of the bees. With more brood pheromone of young larvae we stimulate maturation of hive bees into foragers, leads to less pressure indie of the hive, higher activity and later also higher needs for larvae feed. Be careful on the explanation why virgin new combs cannot be effective. Bees don’t make it to be ready for laying eggs, but they do previously laid older comb or just emerging brood comb.
