The ATAL Online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Modeling and simulation of composite materials: fabrication, characterization and applications” was organized from February 9 to 14, 2026, by Department of Mechanical Engineering, Elitte College of Engineering. This Faculty Development Programme (FDP) was designed to disseminate cutting-edge knowledge in the field of composite materials to faculty members, research scholars, and industry professionals. It provided a valuable platform for participants to engage with eminent experts from premier institutions, leading R&D organizations and internationally acclaimed researchers. Dr. Debasis Dutta, Professor, IIEST, Shibpur, West Bengal, elaborated on Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of field problems for isotropic and orthotropic materials involves discretizing a continuum into smaller elements to solve partial differential equations using energy methods. He stated that orthotropic models often yield higher stress concentrations and more accurate, detailed stress patterns compared to isotropic approximations, particularly in composite simulations.
