I'm so happy to finally be harvesting my onions!!! Starting these from seed in my living room in January, to transplanting in April, to harvesting in July has been such a rewarding experience. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions or let me know how your gardening season is going so far :) My onion growing timeline: 1/30/24 - started seeds indoors in 6 cell trays. 1-3 seedlings per tray. Mixed fertilizer into water every 10-14 days. Trimmed onions to 2" tall once they reached 5". 4/14/24 (4 weeks before last frost) - planted onions outside in raised bed. Soil was a 50/50 mix of compost + topsoil. I also added fertilizer to the soil prior to planting. May to July - fertilized twice with fertilizer mixed into water 7/13/24 - harvested my onioins What I will do differently next year: 1. Start seeds 3- 4 weeks earlier 2. Thin seedlings to one onion seedling per tray 3. Transplant seedlings into garden 6 weeks before my last frost 4.
