Here we compare the Brushless Motor Electrical parameters of 2 evenly matched motors. How do you select between 2 motors when the Kv's are relatively equal. There's 4 electrical parameters that we can review to help make our decision. 3 out of these 4 tell us what to expect for higher performance. The parameters that we cover are: Motors Physical size Kv Value Rm Io The most complicated parameter here to understand is Io. Io is a value that represents how much power the motor will consume with no load. Motor's with lower Io values (when comparing two equal kv motors) will operate more efficiently at very slow speeds. However, if you are after a high performing motor, it is expected that the motor will have a higher Io value. When I'm looking for a motor and see a motor with an Io value of 2.5A or higher, I would expect that this motor is of a "hot" wind and operates at a higher current and lower voltage then a motor of the same physical size with a lower Kv and lower Io. If you are looking for maximum performance a motor will tend to have a higher Io value even though a higher Io value is not necessarily desirable. (This is the confusing part but its also the nature of the beast)
