Sorry for the inactivity as of late, everyone! Over the past month or so I decided to get back into playing Microsoft Train Simulator. I've been playing around with it a little bit and this is the first of many videos to come over the next few weeks. Here we are spotting trains at Carlisle Citadel station, circa 1920. At this time period, there were no less than 120 railway companies across the UK, and in this video we see trains belonging to just over half-a-dozen of them. The biggest focus is on the Midland Railway - which ran from London St. Pancras to Nottingham, Sheffield, Leeds and up to Carlisle via Skipton. The second biggest appearance is by the London and Northwestern Railway, with trains running from London Euston via Crewe, Preston and Lancaster to Carlisle. The Maryport and Carlisle Railway was a smaller line, but has a few trains seen running on its rails, with an appearance by the Furness Railway which connected to it at Maryport. The Northeastern Railway had a line from Newcastle to Carlisle. Scottish Railway companies - the Caledonian Railway, and North British Railway also ran trains to and from Carlisle. At the end of 1922, the majority of these railway companies were amalgamated into the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) - with the exception of the NER which became part of the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER).
