This simulation shows the impact of a 3.0cm PzGr. H HVAP-T being fired from a German Zerstörer 45 self-propelled anti-aircraft (SPAA) at a range of 0.34KM, targeting the hull side of a US M4A2 Sherman equipped with a sandbags add-on armour. Ignoring General Patton's criticism of sandbags add-on armour, allied forces continued to cover their tanks believing that it would defeat or weaken attacks by grenades, bazookas, and even bigger rounds fired at long distance. Also it reduces the impact sound of infantry firing inside the tank. As we can see, sandbags are managed to reduce the velocity of the projectile by 10%, which is not a significant percentage but could make a difference in certain situations. Using self-propelled anti-aircraft against medium tanks was observed during the battle of Berlin as the Germans were desperate, using any available weapons to defend the city. This goes back to the similar principles of anti-tank and anti-air guns, except that the latter uses smaller calibers with high firing rate.
