𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁: When discussing the various options during cataract surgery, patients often ask me about what’s called dropless cataract surgery. Now that’s basically taking those medicines that we need after that procedure, and instead of using them on the surface, we’ll place them on the back of the eye during that procedure, which sounds phenomenal. The reason that I don’t do that on everyone is because when we place that medicine on the back of the eye, just like any medicine inside the body, some people have a poor reaction to it. If we place it in the back of the eye and you happen to be one of those people that has a poor reaction to it, we can’t take it out. If we use those drops on the surface of the eye and you have a poor reaction to it, we can stop them. So that’s why even though I offer that as an option to my patients, I don’t do it on everyone.
