Since the A's announced their plans to build a new stadium at Howard Terminal, we've spent A LOT of time discussing/arguing/debating the merits of the waterfront site. But unless you have special access from the Port of Oakland, you can only see it from the outside. Join me for an ALL ACCESS tour of Howard Terminal. My impressions: There are a lot of containers, trucks / chassis, and some rather large crains, but it was pretty calm. Not a ton of activity or traffic. You are also struck by how quickly you get from one corner to the other. The 50 acres almost feels quaint. And if they remove the 10 acres for the turning basin, it will be even more compact. When you get to the edge of the site, though, it is spectacular. A stadium and residential development there will really connect the Bay Trails and give people back access to the waterfront.
