LIMPKIN BABIES FACE DANGER SEARCHING FOR FAMILY

Limpkin babies "chicks" face danger, while searching for family at Lake Hollingsworth in Lakeland, Florida. Three chicks travel by land and water to meet up with parents and fourth chick. Throughout the day, the limpkin family encounters an aggressive common gallinule mother, a shoreline young gator, and dive-bombing grackles. The family separation was due to parent's food search with strongest chick in tow for "first dibs," while others rest in nest area. Limpkin chicks understand the "pecking order." Strongest and biggest chick eats until full, then the next largest gets a chance, and so on. Sadly, there's not always enough food for all to survive and thrive. Hopefully, all four chicks will make it into adulthood.
