ELISION performs Turgut Erçetin - Das Phonem zwischen zwei Wörtern (a) (2022)

'Das Phonem zwischen zwei Wörtern (a)' (2022) for cornet and trombones is the first part of a major cycle composed for the musicians of ELISION by our wonderful friend, composer Turgut Erçetin whom we first met as part of an ELISION residency at Stanford University in 2014. In this opening movement, Tristram Williams and Benjamin Marks, give life to spatial explorations, detailed melisma and articulations, upon their respective brass instruments. The Salon of the Melbourne Recital Centre is a beautifully responsive space for this experience. It has been a privilege to be able to work closely with Turgut in establishing the sound world for this rare and unusual duo. 'Das Phonem zwischen zwei Wörtern (b)' (2022) is composed for four ELISION soloists performing upon barock instruments with orchestra, the world-premiere being with the SWR orchestra of Germany and 'Das Phonem zwischen zwei Wörtern (c)' (2023) is for the same four soloists, Peter Veale, Carl Rosman, James Aylward and Alex Waite, but this time upon modern instruments as a quartet.
