Today I would like to talk about bronchoscopy. Bronchoscopy as the name suggests is visualizing the bronchus. Scopie is the name of the procedure and bronchus is the conducting tree of the airway. So I would like to tell you that bronchoscopy is essential tool in making diagnosis of many lung infections and lung diseases and it also helps in removal of foreign bodies, removal of excess mucus and sending it for further testing. Bronchoscopy is a procedure which can be done in daycare. That is, can get admitted in the morning and by the evening you can go home and you can have a pretty normal routine from the time you have reached your home. So we would like you to know that you will be getting a clearance from the concerned departments like the anesthesia department because we'll give you mild sedation while we do the bronchoscopy. We don't want you to go through any unpleasant experiences of a tube passing through your nose. So we would sedate you. The sedation is not complete so you will not be having any discomfort at the same time you will not get paralyzed meaning you will not be requiring any ventilator support. So once the procedure is started, it takes from 20 minutes to 30 minutes to finish the procedure. So at the end of 20 or 30 minutes, depending upon the duration, which we plan much earlier before the procedure, the patient will usually wake up. That is by the end of 20th or 30th minute, the patient wakes up. So it is not deep sedation so that you should let me know it so that you don't get confused that it's not something like an operation wherein there is general anesthesia. know that it is not general anesthesia. So the procedure is done to make a diagnosis of a lot of infectious lung diseases and the procedure once it is finished the patient is shifted to an area where we observe the patient for a couple of hours then we give him some feeding and we will send him home and after going home the patient can lead a normal daily routine.
