Buganda Road Court has granted bail to four police officers accused of torturing and causing grievous bodily harm to the Kamwenge district Major Geoffrey Byamukama. Chief Magistrate Jamson Karemani ordered Patrick Muramira and Fred Tumuhairwe to pay two million shillings each for their bail, while Habib Roma and Ben Odeke were released on a one million shillings’ cash bail. They have also been ordered to deposit their National ID's and passports with court, to temporarily keep away from their work stations as investigations continue, and to report to court every every two weeks, starting from 16th June 2017. The four spent the weekend on remand at Luzira prison after they were charged with counts of torture and causing grievous harm. Prosecution states that the accused used batons and iron bars to torture Byamukama whom they had arrested from the Lands Ministry offices in Kampala, as a suspect in the murder AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi. They are said to have committed the offenses on 5th April this year.
