#HanburyHall#HistoricHouses#StatelyHomes Discover Hanbury Hall, a magnificent 18th-century stately home in Worcestershire, set within sweeping parkland and built in the elegant Queen Anne architectural style. Originally constructed in the early 1700s by wealthy lawyer Thomas Vernon, Hanbury Hall reflects both the ambition of its creator and the evolving tastes of Georgian England. While the red-brick façade appears uniform, earlier building phases remain visible, revealing the hall’s layered architectural history. The house later passed to Emma Vernon, whose dramatic life left an indelible mark on Hanbury Hall. After marrying Henry Cecil, 1st Marquess of Exeter, the interior was remodelled and the formal gardens swept away in favour of landscaped parkland inspired by the era of Capability Brown. Behind the grandeur, however, lay scandal, heartbreak, and a secret love affair with the local vicar — a story that still fuels reports of Emma’s ghost, said to roam the grounds dressed in black. Inside, one of Hanbury Hall’s greatest treasures is the spectacular painted staircase by Sir James Thornhill, depicting scenes from the life of Achilles, crowned by a ceiling of the Olympian gods — one of the finest Baroque artworks in an English country house.
