How to Campfire - Start a fire with a Bayite Ferro or Ferrocerium Rod Review. I'm Big Crazy John with Big Crazy Outdoor Adventures and today we are going to talk about starting a camp fire with a fero rod. Specifically this a Bayite 1/2 inch by 6 Inch fero rod. Its listed on Amazon as a "Survival Drilled Flint Fire Starter Ferrocerium Rod Kit with Striker Paracord Landyard Large" I have some of the other fero rods out here that I own to give some perspective. They are a preferred method of lighting a fire opposed to a lighter because of the limited gas a lighter has where as this particular rod can have approximately 36,000 strikes. A ferro rod can get wet and quickly get wiped off and be ready to light a fire a fire over and over again. I would suggest for any camper, or hiker to have a Bic lighter but also carry a fero rod as a backup option. Its good to know how to use one of these just in case. So this Bayite Fero rod is made in China and I purchased this off of Amazon for $12.99 9ft Paracord included. bayite designed new striker included Diameter of the rod is approx 1/2"(12.7mm) Length of the rod: 6"(15.3cm) I have a few things I'm going to try lighting with it. 1) Wet Fire 2) Fatwood _____________________________________________________________ SEND ME YOUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL STICKERS! This property allows it to have many commercial applications, such as the ignition source for lighters (where it is often known by the misleading name "flint"), strikers for gas welding and cutting torches, and ferrocerium rods (also called ferro rods, flint-and-steel, and flint-spark-lighters). Due to ferrocerium's ability to ignite in adverse conditions, rods of ferrocerium are commonly used as an emergency combustion device in survival kits." Composition: "In the Baron von Welsbach's first alloy, 30% iron (ferrum) was added to purified cerium, hence the name "ferro-cerium". " "A modern ferrocerium firesteel product is composed of an alloy of rare-earth metals called mischmetal (containing approximately 20.8% iron, 41.8% cerium, about 4.4% each of praseodymium, neodymium, and magnesium, plus 24.2% lanthanum. A variety of other components are added to modify the spark and processing characteristics.[1] Most contemporary flints are hardened with iron oxide and magnesium oxide." ______________________________________________________________ MUSIC: Main music from: Music by Epidemic Sound (http://www.epidemicsound.com) Outro/End of Video Music: Follow Me 1:43 Jimmy Fontanez/Media Right Productions Dance & Electronic | Inspirational Youtube Audio Library ______________________________________________________________ DISCLAIMER: The views and opinions I express on this channel are my own.
