On April 29, 2025, Columbia Business School hosted Jon Gray, President and Chief Operating Officer of Blackstone, for a fireside chat with Professor Brian Lancaster, Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Finance. As a member of Blackstone’s board of directors and a key figure on its Management and Investment Committees, Jon Gray has been instrumental in driving the firm’s growth and investment strategy. Since his appointment as President & COO in 2018, Blackstone’s assets under management have more than doubled to over $1.1 trillion, with a growing focus on serving insurance clients and individual investors through a thematic investing approach. Previously the head of Blackstone’s Real Estate business—the largest commercial real estate platform in the world—Mr. Gray shared insights into leadership, innovation, and long-term value creation. The discussion also highlighted his philanthropic work and his path from joining Blackstone in 1992 to becoming one of its most influential leaders.
