Streamer Fishing for Wild Browns on the Smith River

The closest waters to central NC that wild trout call home is the Smith River in Martinsville, VA. The Smith is a tailrace fishery coming out of Philpott Lake and the water stays cool year round and allows for a self sustaining population of brown trout. This video shows my first visit to the Smith and I was able to catch a few trout on streamers and nymphs. CAUTION: If you plan to fish the Smith River call 276-629-2432 prior to fishing, wading, or boating to get the generation schedule from Philpott Dam.
