Battle of Gettysburg - Day 2 - July 2, 1863 After the first day of battle, Union forces had to retreat to more defensive positions. They dug themselves in at Culp's Hill, and were outnumbered 3 to 1. On july 2, 1863 around 5pm confederate forces began to assault Culp's Hill. The battle carried on to the 3rd day of battle, but by then the Union outnumbered the rebels 3 to 1. The Union defenses held!
