Take a tour of University of New Haven's Studio B with Music & Sound Recording student Emma Yakalis '26. Studio B is the largest of our three recording facilities and our only hybrid-digital studio featuring a modern console-less modular design. The control room is centered around a Raven MTZ touchscreen control surface powered by a QuadCore MacPro running Avid Pro Tools HDX with an additional UAD-2 OCTO signal processing DSP card. It features plug-in packages from FabFilter, Universal Audio, Izotope, Waves, Native Instruments, McDSP, Antares, and Celemony and connects to a plethora of professional-grade microphone preamps and outboard gear from Focusrite, SSL, Universal Audio, Neve, API, Pendulum, Purple Audio, UREI, Tonelux, Vintech, and Empirical Labs, allowing students to combine the best of both analog and digital recording. The studio boasts a large live recording space, two isolation booths, separate headphone cue mixers for each musician, and a wide variety of microphones by AKG, Sennheiser, Shure, Cascade, Neumann, and more. Studio B is also equipped with a 7.1.4 surround sound system for mixing immersive audio with Dolby Atmos, giving students access the cutting edge of audio technology.
