ENDANGERED SPECIMENS, ENDANGERED SKILLS The Core Principles of Fluid preservation: Routine Maintenance of the Specimen. This video provides a unique ‘behind the scenes’ demonstration of the techniques used by conservators at the Royal College of Surgeons of England to conserve and maintain the College’s acclaimed C18th Hunterian specimen collection. The RCS has nurtured the particular technical and scientific expertise needed to care for its collections and over the last two decades the College’s conservation unit has become a centre of excellence for preserving biological specimens. This video shows techniques and materials to help those with a responsibility for similar collections who have little or no practical experience in this specialised area of conservation. Whilst aimed primarily at conservators and technicians who work with medical and natural history collections, it will also be of particular interest to those who would like to know more about how specimen collections are prepared, maintained and conserved.
