Australian Garden History Society Annual National Conference Wellington NZ 2019 Assoc Prof James Beattie James is a historian of environment, science and gardens. He is a prolific researcher, writer and publisher and is currently employed as an academic at Victoria University, Wellington. His work is focussed on exploring cross-cultural dimensions of environmental knowledge, plants, climate change and conservation. James is the co-editor of the recently published New China Eye Witness. Given his interest in Chinese culture and art it should come as no surprise that James is also Honorary Curator of the Dunedin Chinese Garden. Those of you going on Lynne Walker’s two-week tour of the South Island will have the pleasure of visiting these gardens while you are in Dunedin. While Chinese formal gardens have a fascination of their own, Chinese as gardeners have had an influence on all of our lives and those of our forebears. Please welcome James as he inveigles you into this interesting topic.
