The Yosemite Lake House in Groveland, California was built with Fox Blocks ICFs. At 2,500 square feet, the home is completely wood-free and is a fully noncombustible Type 1A building. There are no interior bearing walls. Built on a steep, rocky hillside just outside Yosemite National Park, the project demanded creative problem-solving from start to finish. Access was limited, and all materials and equipment had to be carefully staged and delivered. It also marked the first installation of the patent-pending Phoenix Longspan system, a fully wood-free roof and floor framing system that integrates exclusively with ICF walls. The all electric, net-zero energy home was completed in less than one year and on budget for the same cost as wood construction. Their insurance company has insured the home for 80 percent less than other policies in the area.
