This video is about offering and developing a course on getting started in robotics. It is a sample of what could be in the course. If you want to get started making your own robot then join the course "Getting Started with Robots". It will be presented at the Chatswood Library either second or third Sat each month starting from 12 April 2025 at 11AM and it is free! This course will take you from simple programming, mechanical construction with Lego components, and testing of various robots. The first session is about learning objectives and options you can choose but the following sessions will adopt either the Elecrfreaks Nezha Invention Kit for microbit or my own robot design based on M5Stack computers and components. In the video I use the M5Stack AtomS3 computer and various sensors with an Atomic Motion Drive. You can purchase the robot kits or components yourself and I will give guidance on where to purchase but there is no need to purchase anything until you try the kits in the sessions. I will provide a kit for you to try and evaluate and I will outline the pros and cons of each kit. If there is sufficient interest I will continue with a second session in May and start with simple programming of a clock using either the M5Stack ATOMS3R computer or microbit computer. I will show you how to setup your development environment. Additional sessions will follow if there is enough interest. These addition sessions will go further and include advanced robot sensors, robot communications, control such as PID. safety, power and AI control. This course could suit anyone that wants to get started in robotics and share their learning experiences with the group. You can be a senior or a younger person wanting additional systems engineering, electronics, programming or mechanical construction skills. The course is based on you doing - making a robot starting with simple circuits and working your way up. The video shows a simple robot what will be built in the course. It uses Lego components and motors which are Lego compatible. All of the electronics and computer comes from M5Stack but microbit based robots such as from DFRobot or Elecfreaks are an alternative. The computer shown in the video is a M5Stack AtomS3 computer based on ESP32S3 and it is programmed in a simple block language and environment on-line called UIFlow2 which is available free on-llne. The only software you need to install on your computer is the M5Burner and drivers for your M5Stack computer. Both are availabe from the M5Stack website. I will also have a detailed outline on both Youtube (channel: dsrc12) and documentation in mindmaps available on dropbox. Check with the Chatswood Library website for exact time, date & location for either the ozberry or Robots and AI group sessions.
