Between 20 and 4 laps the lead changed several times, as cars pitted for fuel, Danica Patrick and Bertrand Baguette were leading. With 4 laps to go rookie JR Hildebrand got the lead. He was leading and the apparent winner, about to take checkered flag, when he swung too wide in last turn, for lapped traffic, hitting the wall just short of the finish. Dan Wheldon avoided the lapped traffic and accident, passed and won the race.
