ValenTangle is one of my favorite Zentangle experiences of the year! I’ve been waiting for February with anticipation. As I downloaded the prompt book (https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/16562..., I thought about what I will do with all of the lovely tiles I create during this project. My beautiful project tiles often wind up laying around the house or tucked away in boxes. So, I decided to kick off ValenTangle 2024 by creating a blizzard book that will hold my tiles like little treasures waiting to be discovered. I adapted the blizzard book instructions found in The Art of the Fold by Hedi Kyle and Ulla Warchal to accommodate Zentangle tile inserts. Many hugs, thanks, and warm wishes to Marguerite Samama CZT for founding and nurturing ValenTangle! You might notice that two times in the video, I run into some confusion or spot something that I want to fix. I decided to leave these sections in the video because they're part of the journey! Nearly every project involves problem solving and giving yourself the time and space to figure things out. Feel free to leave a comment if you need any further clarifications. 00:00 Introduction 02:00 Paper prep 04:28 Folding 3-6-12 accordion 14:03 Folding corners 17:57 Folding pockets 20:31 Last adjustments 23:50 Finished book! Paper Selection: One-sided or Two-sided I purchased multiple sheets of decorative paper from Blick Art. Each sheet measured 20” x 30”. Think about whether your paper has a pattern on one or both sides. A sheet with the pattern on only one side will show both the pattern and the blank sides. You’ll have to think about whether you want the pattern to show on the internal or external edges of each page. If you begin with the pattern side up, the pattern will show on the external edge. If you begin with the pattern side down, the pattern will show on the internal edge. If you sheet has pattern on both sides or no pattern at all, you won’t have to worry about which side you begin with. Paper Measurement: Sheet or Roll When using paper sheets, you will have to tape two rectangles of paper together to achieve the desired length. I initially made the mistake of taping the two sheets together at the midpoint. This made it very difficult to fold at the center of the piece. Moving forward, I decided to tape tape the rectangles 1” off center to avoid folds and seeing the overlap point in the final book. This is why you need one longer rectangle and one shorter. However, if you choose to use paper on a roll, such as brown craft paper, you won’t have to worry about taping together two rectangles. Just cut the desired dimensions: 43 ½” x 8 5/8”.
