Is PETRA by night WORTH IT? What about visiting at peak times?

Today, we left the Dead Sea and headed to Wadi Musa, the town on the edge of Petra. Disappointed to learn the back entrance was closed, we needed to come up with a plan B and quickly. Tours were not being ran in English, so that wasn't an option, so instead, we entered Petra at a peak time with the tourist masses and felt very overwhelmed by the whole experience. The further into the site we walked, the less crowded it became and we were not hassled so much. After a tip off for how to see the view of the treasury from above without the need to pay a guide, we made our way up there and were well looked after by a coffee shop owner and his son (as it was the weekend). After mistiming how long it would take to get back from 'the view' we had a quick dinner back in Wadi Musa before returning with tickets in hand for Petra by Night. The Siq was lit by candles in paper bags, weighed down by sand and we were treated to a flute performance, a story telling all whilst sipping on bedouin tea gazing at Petra's treasury lit up. Petra at Night was one of those experiences I'm pleased I've had, though probably wouldn't dash back to see it again!
