In order to amend a bone in a young man's spine, the Hadassah Medical Center orthopedic surgery team used, for the first time in 2017, the help of two Siemens robots; that is, combining two robots which help "find the path" into the patient's spine, as Dr. Amal Khoury, the orthopedic surgeon responsible for the computer-based planning of this particular surgery, puts it. The patient is a young man who had had an accident which caused a fracture dislocation of a deformed bone. Dr. Amal Khoury explains how they work: Robot number 1, Siemens Artis Zeego®, visualises the patient's body and creates the graphic map. Robot number 2, Siemens Mazor Renaissance®, consequently executes the placing of the necessary instruments directly into the patient's spine. Prof. Leon Kaplan (Head of the Spine Surgery Unit) and Dr. Josh Schroeder (Senior Spine Surgeon) perform and supervise the surgery. The robots are part of the orthopedic surgery team at HMO and support the surgeons by way of the "four-eyes-principle".
