Let's explore The Beehive Trail and The Bowl Trail at Acadia National Park! Many hikers consider the Beehive Trail the scariest hike at Acadia National Park, and for good reason! One of Acadia's famous iron rung and ladder trails, this is a great way to get familiar with these difficult trails. You can expect steep granite staircases, iron rungs, and exposed cliff faces on your adventure up this 450ft cliff trail. Hikers are rewarded spectacular sights of Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, and the Gulf of Maine stretching to the horizon. Be careful on your way up, steep drop offs with no railings require secure footings. The trail crests over the cliff where there is still about 200 ft of uneven walking to reach the summit of the Beehive at 520-ft above sea-level. This is a must do trail at Acadia! Once at the summit, the trail gets easier on the way down! The trail loops down and continues down to the Bowl, a small peaceful lake between the Beehive and Champlain mountain.
