With knife crime a continuing issue in the UK, BBC Three has produced a series of powerful, short films in collaboration with EastEnders. They uncover the real stories of the families behind the landmark storyline, as we learn of love, loss and the determination not to forget. Promising footballer 17-year-old Godwin was following his dream of playing professionally at Oxford United. A weekend at home ended in tragedy when he intervened as his friends were being attacked in the street. His mother Yvonne speaks of the devastating effects of carrying a knife. When 17-year-old Jay said goodbye to his mother Caroline to attend a friend’s house party, she had no idea it would be the last time she saw Jay alive. Caroline recalls her race to the hospital and the struggle of coming to terms with her son’s murder. 20-year-old Dwayne intervened when he saw a teenager being chased by a man carrying a knife. Dwayne lost his life confronting the attacker. His mother Lorraine ran from her home only a few hundred yards away to find him surrounded by police officers and being treated by paramedics. After telling his mother Angela that he wouldn’t be home late for dinner, 17-year-old Jason was fatally stabbed 8 times in an argument over a torn jacket. Angela fondly remembers her only child 'who saw the best in everyone' with step father John Gifted student 17-year-old Shaquan received 5 offers of places at university. Sadly the good news never reached him, as he was fatally stabbed in an argument over a bag of snacks the day before. His mother Jessica tells of her difficulty in coming to terms with her loss. A knock on the door one Christmas left Trish watching an ambulance pull away with her 27-year-old son Eugene on board.
