"The Amish and Mennonite Auction Experience | Hope for Haiti Benefit Auction 2024" Description: Join us as we dive into the unique interfaith experience of the Hope for Haiti Benefit Auction, where the Amish, Mennonites, and the secular community come together for a great cause. Despite their insular lives and distinct communities, these groups unite at the business level and shared educational institutions, making events like this auction truly special. π A Rainy Start to a Heartwarming Day The day began sunny but quickly turned to rain, yet the spirits remained high as we met many of you! Kris shares touching stories, including encounters with a Holdeman Mennonite man and a lovely couple from Ontario. π½οΈ Delicious Food and Personal Stories Hotdogs, Fries, and Onion Rings: Prepared by the English community, including Scottβs cousin Jim, who has been helping for 11 years. Baked Goods: Coordinated by Elva, a familiar face from our show. Smoothies and Donuts: Made by the Amish, starting their day at 5 AM. Coffee: Served by Nate, an Old Order Mennonite. Grilled Chicken: By the King Brothers, our former neighbors. Eli, a cheerful and down-to-earth Amish man, shared insights on the challenges the Amish church faces today. Zimmermanβs BBQ: Breakfast sandwiches and brisket by two Old Order Mennonite brothers. π Spikeball Tournament: Eliβs nephew Matt ran the tournament with 20 teams signed up, though only 13 played due to the rain. We were amazed by their skill and wondered why Old Order Mennonites donβt play competitive spikeball more often. π Childrenβs Activities So popular this year that we ran out of prizes! Despite the rain, the kids had a blast. π¨ Main Auctions Main Tent: Co-auctioneered by Old Order Mennonites and Amish, featuring all sorts of items, quilts, gift baskets, and certificates. Flower Auction: Hundreds of flowers from local greenhouses. Large Item Auction: Featuring hunting blinds, Amish-made sheds, a Saulky (we learned a lot about this!), and massive swing sets. Silent Auction: Highlights include a meal by Kristin, a 3-night stay at our Hertzog Homestead Cottages, a $1,500 sewing machine, and a Melard Coach. πΈ Highlights and Personal Stories Links To Things Mentioned In This Video: Hope For Haiti Benefit Auction: https://hopeforhaitibenefit.auction Hertzog Homestead Blue Cottages: https://www.hertzoghomestead.com Zimmering BBQ: Β Β /Β 100093550230479Β Β Interview With The Holdeman Mennonites: Β Β Β β’Β TraditionsΒ inΒ Motion:Β AmishΒ andΒ Mennonites...Β Β (Interview starts around 6 minutes in) Mennonite Sam Making italian Sauce: Β Β Β β’Β ItalianΒ GetsΒ SaucyΒ inΒ aΒ MennoniteΒ KitchenΒ ...Β Β Athletic Amish Girls & Boys: Competitive Spikeball: Β Β Β β’Β AthleticΒ AmishΒ GirlsΒ &Β Boys:Β CompetitiveΒ S...Β Β The Surprising Traditions of An Old Order Mennonite Wedding: Β Β Β β’Β TheΒ SurprisingΒ TraditionsΒ ofΒ AnΒ OldΒ OrderΒ ...Β Β The Great Amish Mennonite Baked Good Test: Β Β Β β’Β TheΒ GreatΒ AmishΒ MennoniteΒ BakedΒ GoodΒ TestΒ Β Chapters: 00:00 Being A Part of the Authentic Amish and Mennonite Auction Experience 00:42 A Brief Overview and History of the Hope For Haiti Benefit Auction 02:45 Meeting people From Our YouTube Community at the Auction 04:31 Auction Day Begins 05:26 The People That Make The Auction Come Alive 05:50 Auction Day Is All About The Food 06:20 Our Frymaster Jim 07:02 Elva, Our Old Order Mennonite Neighbor, Helms The Baked Good Sale 08:03 These Amish Women Are Masters of the Smoothies! 08:36 The Amish King Brothers Make The Best Grilled Chicken In Lancaster County 09:22 Being Inside An Amish House 10:05 Why The Amish Need Solar Power 10:51 The Amish Have Had To Adapt and Evolve 11:28 Amish Make (The Best) Donuts On Site 12:44 How Do You Pronounce The Word Caramel? 13:39 Zimmerings BBQ (And A Story Of How The Owner Almost Hustled Us 8^) 14:55 The Amish Spikeball Competition 16:12 Why The Old Order Mennonites Don't Compete In The Spikeball Match 18:42 Auction #1: Under The Main Tent (Selling Quilts, Grills, and More) 20:18 Where You Place A Grill Matters (Amish and Mennonites Place Them Differently) 22:12 Auction #2: The Outside Large Item Auction 22:50 Think All Horse And Buggies Look The Same?
