Strawberries & Cream is one of our favorite coffees, and while we legally can’t label it certified organic, the story behind it matters even more. This unique coffee comes from Las Lajas, a legendary farm in Costa Rica run by Oscar and Francisca, pioneers in organic coffee farming. Though they were the first certified organic coffee farm in the country, the pandemic made the cost of certification unsustainable, tens of thousands of dollars a year. Now, they’re in a 5-year waiting period to regain that certification, even though their farming practices remain fully organic. We’ve learned that organic certification often favors massive commercial farms, not small, quality-driven producers. That’s why we travel, visit farms, meet the people, and understand their values, so we can bring you incredible coffees like this one.
