If you or a loved one are struggling with addiction call (844) 219 5220 At Choices Recovery, our program is designed to give our patients the tools and skills that they need to face and overcome their addictions. But as prepared as we try to make our patients to return to the stresses of daily life in the real world, nobody can do it on their own. Though it may get easier and we might get stronger as time goes on, the need for a strong recovery support system will never go away. Even so, the most important time for support and encouragement from close friends and family is when a loved one first reaches out for help with a drug or alcohol problem. Recently, we travelled to Park City, Utah during the 2017 Sundance Film Festival to sponsor a premier red-carpet event known as the EcoLuxe Lounge. Our guest host, Gretchen Rossi of TV’s Real Housewives of Orange County, spent the day chatting with many of the entertainment professionals that visited the EcoLuxe Lounge to learn about some of the many holistic products and services gathered there by Debbie Durkin of Durkin Entertainment, the leading producer of holistic product placement in TV and film. One of the people who took a moment to speak with Gretchen was Christina Robinson, a young actress who is probably best known for her role on the TV series “Dexter”. Christina shared some of her personal viewpoint on addiction, having recently helped a close friend who was struggling with drugs. “A friend opened up to me about their problem,” she remembers. “It was out of the blue, was not expecting that. But he did open up to us, and we’ve been there to support him.” One of the most vital parts of support and encouragement is making sure the person knows that they’re loved. Too often, people do not reach out because of feelings of shame or guilt. Christina understands that her friend reached out for help because he knew that he needed to, no matter what others might think or say. “I realized no matter what you say, everything that they do is up to them – they’re going to do what they want to do. It really takes a person getting into the right mindset.” It is a huge step for many people, and it takes a lot of courage to admit that there’s a problem. From that very first moment, they need all of the love, compassion, and understanding that they can get. At Choices Recovery, we do everything we can to give our patients the support that they need, even after they have graduated their program at our treatment center. Our extensive Aftercare Department helps with the transition back into real life, including assistance with sober living arrangements, recovery groups in the area, and even job placement. Sometimes, we’ll give a call just to say “Hi” and see how things are going. For people in recovery from addiction, just knowing that someone somewhere cares about them and their sobriety can make all the difference in the world.
