Come along with us today as we forage for morel mushrooms in the beautiful hills of Southwest Virginia. We almost missed the season this year so we’re trying to play catch up. Our goal was to find a few of the elusive morel mushrooms and anything else that appears edible. We had a very good day. The proof was in the eating. This video is a little longer than usual, but I wanted to document as much as I could of us being together in the mountains. Time is going by so fast that we never know when the day will come that this is just a memory for one of us. Saving Local History is much more than finding relics. These videos quickly become history themselves. You’ll see a lot of beautiful stream footage of the rugged stream that passes through this valley. Be sure to watch long enough to see and hear the story of the old apple tree that used to be surrounded by morel mushrooms. Sadly, the tree has completely died and fallen to the ground. We really do miss it. It didn’t look like we were going to find anything, but after a while, we got lucky. We not only found morels, but we found several pheasant backs as well. It was truly an exciting day in this difficult terrain and a lot of some much-needed exercise. I hope you enjoy being with me on these adventures and that you will keep following me on YouTube and Facebook. Together, we can Save a lot of Local History. I would like to thank all of you who watch my videos and I'd like to encourage you to subscribe to my YouTube channel if you haven't done so already. It's free and it helps me to stay motivated to keep making the videos. I hope you enjoy the video and that you will share it with others. “Saving Local History is always a worthwhile endeavor.” Foraging For [Morel Mushrooms] in the Beautiful Hills 🕙Chapters | Timestamps🕗 00:00 Intro 00:20 Pretty Stream 01:20 First Morel Spotted 01:27 Sandy Going After the First Morel 02:00 Finding More 04:17 Another View of the Stream 04:49 Old Mountain Cabin 05:26 Sandy Spots Another One 05:56 Mushroom Log Spotted 06:20 Pheasant Backs 08:26 Pretty Slide in the Stream 09:06 Crossing the Old Apple Tree 09:39 Story of the Old Apple Tree 10:20 Larry Crossing Stream 10:50 Sandy Crossing Stream 11:39 A Big Hole of Water 12:07 Another Patch of Morels 12:46 Steep Terrain 17:10 Sandy Still Picking 18:12 Sandy's Still Picking 18:48 Almost to the Top 19:06 Sandy Showing What She's Found 19:54 Tub of Edibles 19:27 Wrap Up 20:05 Outro Find me online at: https://youtube.com/c/SavingLocalHist... / savinglocalhistory / savinglocalhistory / larry.hogston / larryhogston https://savinglocalhistory.com/ [Coming Soon] #savinglocalhistory #metaldetecting #livedigs #larryhogston #morelmushrooms #drylandfishhunting #morelmushroomshunting #drylandfishfoundinthesemountains #mushroomhunting #wildmushrooms #drylandfish #howtofindmorelmushroomsinvirginia #howtofindmorelmushrooms #howtofinddrylandfish #beautifulwoodsinsouthwestvirginia #findingtheillusivemorelmushroom #morels #pheasantbacks #appletree #foragingformorelmushroomsinthebeautifulhills
