The Lover's Soundwalk is an immersive audio journey through the hidden paths of the Potamia valley, following the secret romance between Anoussa Kokkos and Giabatis Barrozzi in the late 17th century. Also known as the ‘Romeo and Juliet of Naxos’, these two came from the warring Kokkos and Barozzi families, locked in a fierce and bloody feud. As listeners walk through real historical sites, the haunting voice of Anoussa guides them through her memories—of forbidden love, danger and the courage to seek out her own path to love. Blending natural sound and local myths, the experience brings the landscape to life with every step, allowing visitors to feel what it means to love and rebel in a land steeped in tradition and conflict. Guardians of Naxos invite visitors to experience free, immersive soundwalks guided by historical island figures. Stepping beyond familiar paths, visitors can connect deeply with local culture and help preserve Naxos’ heritage for generations to come. Guardians of Naxos was imagined and realized by a collective of local teachers and students, international academic institutions and passionate individuals to promote sustainable tourism through immersive storytelling. Our mission is to protect and celebrate Naxos’ rich cultural history, including its myths, traditions and natural wealth. The Guardians of Naxos soundwalks are first researched by the students, parents and teachers of Naxos highschools; the soundwalk scripts are then developed with the master students of Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and illustrated by bachelor students of Cyprus University of Technology; while places of interest for local culture are researched by master students of Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences.
