This is the first start of my 1968 Pontiac Firebird with its new Edelbrock Performer Series 750 CFM carburettor. The car catches at the start of the video because there is fuel, spilt while removing the old carburettor, pooled in the intake manifold. After that some cranking is required to pump fuel through the filter assembly and the new carburettor. Once the carburettor's primed, however, the engine fires up pretty easily. You'll notice that initially the Pontiac almost cuts out when revved. That was because the accelerator pump, which dumps extra fuel in when you hit the throttle, was incorrectly adjusted and supplying too much fuel. The Firebird still needs tuning but, for the mean time, it sounds pretty good. The secondaries seem to be working as well, which is interesting as they didn't appear to on the previous carburettor. You can tell they're opening up when you get a distinct change in intake note, audible at the 1:37 mark. Additionally, I've noticed that the car sounds different with this carburettor. The exhaust note is deeper, richer and softer. I'm impressed by how easily it started too, given that it's been sat for a while and it was very cold - hence all the condensation from the exhausts. Apologies for the slightly grainy engine bay shots. It was getting quite dark and the camera was starting to struggle a little.
