Instrumental (Organ/Violin) Sanctus (Heilig, heilig, heilig) – Holy, holy, holy Deutsches Hochamt in C Major (MH 560) Korean Catholic Hymn Book #340 Music by Johann Michael Haydn (1737–1806) Johann Michael Haydn was a renowned Austrian composer of the Classical era and the younger brother of Joseph Haydn. Though often overshadowed by his brother, Michael Haydn was deeply respected for his sacred compositions. He left behind over 360 works, including more than 40 masses, vespers, offertories, and graduals that shaped Austrian Catholic liturgical music in the 18th century. 🎵 About the "Deutsches Hochamt" (German High Mass) The Deutsches Hochamt in C Major (MH 560), composed by Johann Michael Haydn, is one of the most beloved German-language mass settings in Catholic tradition. It was created to allow the faithful to actively participate in the liturgy by singing in their own language. The melodies are lyrical, accessible, and deeply reverent, designed for congregational use during the Tridentine-era Latin Mass. Though not a “Mass” in the strict liturgical sense (i.e., it does not set the Latin Ordinary text word-for-word), this work functions as a **vernacular hymn-based High Mass**, with each movement corresponding to a part of the Mass. 🕊️ Structure of the German High Mass (MH 560) 1. Introitus (Einzug) - Empfangen wir dein Heil → Processional 2. Kyrie (Herr, erbarme dich) → Lord, have mercy 3. Gloria (Ehre sei Gott in der Höhe) → Glory to God in the highest 4. Credo (Ich glaube an den Vater) → I believe in God, the Father 5. Offertorium (Lob und Dank sei dir gebracht) → Hymn of praise and thanksgiving 6. Sanctus (Heilig, heilig, heilig) → Holy, holy, holy 7. Benedictus (Hochgelobt sei der da kommt) → Blessed is he who comes 8. Agnus Dei (O du Lamm Gottes) → Lamb of God 9. Communio (Schlussgesang) Dank sei dir, Herr → Communion or Concluding hymn This video presents Movement 3: Gloria – “Ehre sei Gott in der Höhe”, performed as an instrumental duet for organ and violin by SusanCecil Ensemble.
