Floyd Tiger celebrated his fourth birthday this week at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge! Floyd spends his time laying in the sun in the quiet areas of the enclosure with Tigger occasionally resting nearby. Floyd likes to keep to himself and watch the world around him as he will usually find a nice quiet spot either on or underneath his bench to take a nap. Floyd was rescued from a closing facility in 2019. He shares a habitat with Golden Tabby Tiger, Tigger. Floyd is best known for his "Resting Floyd Face;" his striped pattern makes him look angry even when he's content. His favorite things include logs and leaves, his best friend Tigger, and food. Species: Tiger (Panthera tigris) DOB: June 17, 2017 Sex: Male Arrival Date: January 17, 2019 Rescue Story: TCWR rescued six tigers from a closed-down Oklahoma facility in January of 2019. The owner was facing eviction and had reached out to Turpentine Creek to take over the care of his six tigers. The man claimed to have saved the tigers from being destroyed at three months of age after they could no longer be used to generate cub petting profits for their prior owner, who allegedly had ties to Joe Exotic. When the TCWR team arrived on site, all six, who ranged from 16 months to four years of age, were in a state of filth and extreme obesity. It took nearly six hours to load up the six cats; Tommie, Frankie, Floyd, Tigger, Robbie, and Diesel. Diesel was the most lethargic at the time of rescue, and just a few days after getting the animals safely on the property, we, unfortunately, lost him. With a healthy diet, veterinary care, and cognitive enrichment, the other 5 cats quickly transformed into lively tigers.
