Central Sulawesi is one of the world’s most mysterious archaeological regions, home to over 400 megalithic monuments spread across three isolated valleys: Napu, Behoa, and Bada. These ancient sites feature a unique collection of giant stone jars, anthropomorphic statues, spirit effigies, and mysterious carvings, many of which are believed to date back over 3,000 years—though their true origins remain unknown. Most of these megaliths are carved from granite infused with high amounts of quartz, a material incredibly difficult to shape without advanced tools. Many are aligned with springs or rivers, and their distribution across such rugged terrain suggests a highly organized culture with spiritual, astronomical, or even technological motivations. Some archaeologists suggest they were used as burial jars or ceremonial containers, while others point to signs of lost knowledge—possibly even an ancient energetic system, like that proposed at other global megalithic sites. Increasingly, researchers are exploring the possibility that these monuments were created using ancient geopolymer technology—a now-lost method of stone casting or softening that could explain the precision, uniformity, and scale of the Kalambas found here. In this third part of our expedition, we take you to Pokekea, a grassy field in the heart of the Behoa Valley, where dozens of Kalambas—massive stone vessels—lie scattered alongside circular stone lids and broken fragments. Locals call them "spirit boats," and stories still circulate of their mystical power and ancient origins. Were these jars truly used for funerary rites? Or were they part of something far more complex—perhaps remnants of a civilization that has vanished from the historical record? We document their shapes, placements, stone composition, and local interpretations—continuing our search for evidence of lost technologies, ancient geopolymer use, and hidden knowledge that defy conventional explanations.
