There is much more than you might think to gas masks. Proper gas masks and respirators make a huge difference in situations like severe air pollution, riot control, fires, natural disasters, pandemics, and nuclear attacks. But did you know a study by the CDC found that 76% of people do not know how to properly put a gas mask on correctly? Uhhh yikes… how shitty would it feel to be prepared enough to HAVE gas masks ready for an event but have them be useless because you put it on wrong 😬 let’s not be “that” guy. This video should help though! When I started building my first NBC supply kit I remember ordering some Israeli masks on a surplus site and calling it good. Happy to have advanced in my skill sets and knowledge though to share with y’all that there IS more to it, you gotta know some stuff before and after purchasing!! Now Masks themselves, I don’t want to tell ya what to buy. There’s a lot out there for many different price points from great companies. Depending on your budget, just find one from a reputable brand, with certifications. 3M, Mestel, Parcil Safety, Mira, just to name a few; are from companies I would say, did it right. If budget allows seeking Masks and Filters (not all, but some) with a CBRN rating will offer the most protection. The goal you have should be to use your mask to exit hazardous area, but that might take some time. Remember you are only going to be good as long as you have filters. Depending on the severity of the potential hazard you could even find yourself going through 3 filters in a day!
