Happy Thanksgiving!! “For the Fruits of His Creation” was composed by Francis Jackson, with text by Fred Pratt Green. Jackson wrote the tune “East Acklam” in 1957 at York Minster Abbey, where he was organist and music master. The name “East Acklam” refers to the hamlet northeast of York, England, where Jackson lived after 1982. The Rev. F. Pratt Green was ordained in the British Methodist ministry and served as pastor in Brighton, York, and Norwich, England. Green is one of the most well-known British contemporary hymn writers, with works appearing in new hymnals, including American hymnals, and in hymn supplements. In 1970, the text of “For the Fruits” was first published in the British “Methodist Recorder.” Green had written the text specifically for the tune “East Acklam.” On this Thanksgiving Day, pianist Charles Manning improvises the popular harvest thanksgiving hymn “For the Fruits of His Creation.”
