The Village Mall in Willingboro , NJ was built in 1974. its anchor stores were originally a Woolco and Acme. With competition from the Willingboro place less the 1/2 a mile away it was declining from the start. originally having 40 stores and an Eric movie theatre the stores would slowly leave 1 by 1. Woolco would claim bankruptcy and close this location in 1983. The movie would leave afterward leaving just an acme and a couple of stores. in thr late 90's Caldor would take residence in the former Woolco. in 1993 all the Mall stores were gone, movie theatre gone and Acme would also leave. leaving only the Caldor which would close in 1999. Sitting vacant and the Pennsauken Mart closing in 2006 the idea would be formed to allow former merchants to relocate and rename the Village Mall to the Grand Marketplace. with a flea market in thr back it tried to become a new go to place in South Jersey. until in 2020 when Covid hit it struggled to remain open and finally closed its door in 2021. now in 2026 it just sits. #deadmall #deadmalls #retail #mall #malls #mallshopping #shoppingmall #new jersey #villagemall #grandmarketplace #nostalgia #shopping #waterfountain #waterfountains #fountain #fountainse
