The FDNY battled a major 3-alarm fire at a mixed-occupancy building at 19-05 Flushing Avenue in Queens, with heavy fire originating in a first-floor tire shop and thick black smoke pushing throughout the structure. The incident escalated quickly from a phone alarm to a 10-75, then to an All-Hands, 2nd, and 3rd Alarm, with conditions rapidly deteriorating as fire spread and structural concerns increased. Command ordered all members out of the building as multiple tower ladders were positioned and foam operations were initiated on the ground to combat stubborn pockets of fire fueled by tire stock.
