ENG - Lefkada Town or Lefkas represents the administrative center of the picturesque island of Lefkada, one of the most beautiful in the Ionian archipelago. Near the floating bridge at the entrance to Lefkada, the town of Lefkas is located in the northernmost part of the island. It is connected to the mainland by a narrow canal, serving as the main port of the island. The port, situated on the eastern side of the town, hosts numerous yachts, sailboats, and vessels of various sizes, providing an impressive maritime scene. After the devastating earthquakes of 1948 and 1953, the capital suffered significant damages but was reconstructed. The new buildings, constructed with wooden structures and metal roofs in varied hues, bring a fresh and colorful atmosphere to the town. The main square of the town is named Agios Spyridon, inspired by the 17th-century church located in the heart of the square. Along the promenade, a small canal stretches, connected to the Ionian Sea. An ingenious wooden bridge has been erected over this canal, becoming the emblem of the town. With its three graceful arches, the bridge offers a perfect setting for the romantic admiration of the sunset and remains a central and picturesque landmark found on numerous souvenirs.
