Our recent snowstorm is having a ripple effect on the area blood supply, among regional American Red Cross banks and centers. The organization declared a severe national emergency last month. Demand at health centers is currently outpacing supply. Health advocates and doctors are raising awareness about a program for seniors that helps people on Medicare pay for their prescription costs in monthly installments, instead of all at once. Research shows the program has seen scant enrollment since debuting last year. The Pennsylvania State Police is now accepting applications for its 20-26 Law and Leadership Academy. The program is free and open to anyone interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.
