Victorian locomotives at a Victorian/Edwardian station! It was my first trip to Oakworth during the recent KWVR steam gala, but I felt like I knew it already thanks to various scenes from "The Railway Children"; The station is lit by gas much like Rothley on the GCR, and in both cases it's been "retro-fitted" to help recreate the period atmosphere the respective railways are trying to conjure up. I've merged the incoming and outgoing clips to give an idea of how the locos sound when they're coasting and when they're working hard to overcome their train's inertia: I find the exhaust beats of double-headed steam trains fascinating, the synchronisation between the locos slips in and out of time and the 'barks' reflects off any nearby surface complicating the soundwaves in a way that would baffle a scientist!
