We visit the Kennedy Space Center near Cape Canaveral in Florida, USA. NASA's spaceport brings us closer to space programs such as Apollo, Space Shuttle and Artemis. But SpaceX, Blue Origin and Boeing are also at work here. A highlight is the "Kennedy Space Center Explore Tour" across the site. In the Apollo/Saturn V Center we experience the launch of Apollo 8 to the moon. The first moon landing with Apollo 11 is shown. A separate hall is dedicated to the Space Shuttle and the original space shuttle Atlantis. The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is located on Merritt Island near Cape Canaveral. The Kennedy Space Center offers an overwhelming variety of attractions. We start right behind the entrance in the Rocket Garden. There we see the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo rockets from NASA's pioneering days. The giants reaching for the sky are very impressive and a great photo opportunity. But we leave the past behind us. In the "Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex" we see the present and future of space travel with the latest developments from NASA and commercial space companies such as SpaceX, Boeing and Blue Origin. The exhibition is very elaborately designed and you get fascinatingly close to the spaceships and rockets. Then it's time for the Kennedy Space Center Explore Tour. This tour is an absolute highlight and definitely worth the extra charge of currently $25 (plus tax) per person. A bus takes us, accompanied by a guide, to the actual spaceport. The explanations are extremely interesting and easy to understand even with our less than perfect English skills. We pass the Kennedy Space Center headquarters and go to the launch towers for Blue Origin, Delta IV and Starship. A highlight and a wonderful photo opportunity is NASA's Vehicle Assembly Building. Work is currently underway here on the Artemis mission. At the viewing point over Launch Complex 39A and B we learn a lot about the flights of the Apollo program and the Space Shuttles. We see an Armored Escape Vehicle, a rescue vehicle that was ready for the Apollo and Space Shuttle launches. We are even allowed to enter the original access for the Space Shuttles, the White Room and Crew Access Arm. And the Launch Abort System for the Orion spacecraft, the ejection seat for the crew, is also on display. Only the spectator stands are deserted because there is no rocket launch scheduled at the moment. But this is not a museum, work is being done and we even see a load being prepared for SpaceX. The Kennedy Space Center Explore Tour ends at the Apollo/Saturn V Center. Here, in the control room with the original consoles from 1968, we experience the launch of Apollo 8, the second manned space flight of the Apollo program. And we see the enormous 111 meter (363 feet) long Saturn V rocket that brought the spacecraft into space. Then suddenly Apollo 11 is in front of us and the first people on the moon are just raising the American flag. Modules and capsules from the Apollo missions, space suits, a lunar vehicle and real rocks from the moon complete the picture. A bus takes us back to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. A large hall is dedicated to the Space Shuttle. The space shuttle Atlantis found its final home here after around 200 million kilometers (126 million miles). We also get very close to this scarred giant of space. And we remember the Challenger disaster and the disaster of the space shuttle Columbia. The space shuttles have been history since 2011. After so much technology, daring and visions, we treat ourselves to a little contrast program. We drive to Cocoa Beach and walk along the wide sandy beach. On the horizon we see cruise ships on their way to Port Canaveral, the second largest cruise port in the world. And we see something else on the horizon: the launch pads of the Kennedy Space Center! The next destination on our 3-month road trip through the USA is the complete contrast: the Everglades! If you liked it, please like and subscribe to the channel so you don't miss anything.
