Hello, welcome to our channel! This video is about our visit to the abandoned village of Doel in Belgium. Doel is a 400-year-old town that previously had a few thousand residents, but the population had shrunk to 25 today, or less than 15 homes. The reason is because of expansion plans of the Port of Antwerp and that the nearby villages would be demolished. Over the last 20 years, most of the inhabitants have left Doel, except for a small group of people who decided to remain in their properties in protest of the Antwerp port’s expansion plans. There is also a nuclear power station that is currently still in use. Since 2020, Doel has become a haven for street artists. It is an incredible feeling when admiring colourful graffiti painted on the abandoned houses while we were strolling through the streets. We hope you enjoyed this video!
