It was designed in 1923 at the Doncaster Works by the renowned engineer Nigel Gresley and quickly rose to fame thanks to its unprecedented performance for the time. The locomotive holds two steam traction records – on November 30, 1934, it became the first to officially reach a speed of 100 mph (160.9 km/h), and on August 8, 1989, during a visit to Australia, it traveled 679 km without stopping. The set is over 60 cm long and packed with details. The model, made up of as many as 2,677 pieces, features a coupled drive mechanism with moving wheels and an opening cab roof that reveals the detailed interior. The set includes intricately crafted figurines of a driver and a fireman, inspired by real railway workers from the steam era. The included coal tender is faithfully recreated and equipped with a special hitch that allows additional cars to be connected. The model also features a track section over 60 cm long, made using dual-color injection molding technology. The Flying Scotsman from COBI is more than just a model.
